Wreck on SR17 Ties Up Morning Traffic

102015 sr17Traffic is flowing again on SR17 in Martin after being backed up for hours due to a wreck involving two cars and a tractor trailer.

It happened about 8:30a this morning on SR17 northbound just at the Martin City limit.

According to Martin Fire Chief Lynn Stovall, a Toyota SUV hit a Ford Escort head-on.

“A Toyota Tacoma traveling southbound hit a Ford Escort traveling northbound head-on,” Stovall said. “The Escort spun around after impact. The tractor trailer rear-ended the Escort and ended up in the ditch in the northbound lane.”

The tractor trailer’s cab ended up in the ditch with the trailer crossing both lanes of SR17.102015 sr17b

Stovall said his team worked to extricate the driver of the Escort, but he said it appears there were no serious injuries.

“The driver of the Ford Escort was trapped. We had to extricate and remove a door. The injuries didn’t appear to be life threatening. He was conscious and talking,” Stovall said.

The wreck closed SR17 in both directions until about 11a.

No word yet on whether any charges will be filed in this case.
