Workforce Development Seminar Set for Monday in Hartwell

If you are unemployed or looking for career training or a skills upgrade, you might want to attend an upcoming seminar in Hartwell.

The Georgia Mountains Workforce Development will hold an Overview Session at the Hart County Adult Learning Center in Hartwell on Monday, May 19th at 11 a.m.

The session will introduce job seekers and others to the services of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998.

The WIA is administered in Northeast Georgia through the Georgia Mountains Regional Workforce Development office. One of the services offered by the Workforce Development is a mobile training unit.

Over the past several months, the Georgia Mountains Workforce Development mobile training unit has been visiting various areas in Franklin and Hart counties.

Trainer Micah Thomas says the training units have been very helpful to those looking to improve their job search skills.

“We help with resume writing, either how to write a new resume or polishing an existing one,” he said. “We also help people navigate employment sites online and show them how to apply for jobs online, which can be confusing sometimes.”

Workforce Development Funding also provides education and training to eligible adults 18 years and above seeking to enhance their current skills, learn a new trade, or obtain their GED.

“At the Workforce office, we offer tuition assistance,” he said. “If you know you need more training or you want to learn a totally new skill and you need to go school for it, we offer tuition assistance for those who are eligible.”

The Georgia Mountains Workforce Development office serves 13 counties in Northeast Georgia including Franklin, Hart, and Stephens counties.

You do not have to be a resident of Hart County to attend next week’s seminar.   For more information you can contact the GMWD at 770-538-2727.
