Work Continues on New Fr. Co. Zoning Map

Franklin County Planning and Zoning Director Scott DeLozier continues to work on the County’s new zoning map.

Last week, at the Board of Commission/Industrial Building Authority Joint meeting, DeLozier gave both groups a sneak peek at a preliminary map. DeLozier emphasized however, there’s still a lot of work to be done before the map is ready for the County Commissioners to approve.

Over the past year, County commissioners have worked to define specific areas of the county for industrial and residential development.

Last spring, Delozier asked the Board of Commissioners to take a new look at how the county is zoned – particularly with regard to residential and industrial zoning. At the time, he said the current map has most of the county zoned Agriculture Intensive.

But with new economic and residential growth is coming to the County, DeLozier said a more accurate zoning map is needed.

DeLozier also said his office looking to add more commercial zoning areas along the I-85 corridor.

IBA Member and Lavonia Mayor Courtney Umbehant also suggested Planning and Zoning come up with a Comprehensive Plan Map.

DeLozier hopes to have a preliminary map ready for the County Commissioners to review and approve later this year.
