Winter weather coming

Our top story, Franklin and Hart counties bracing for some winter weather this weekend.

A winter storm watch is now in effect for Northeast Georgia, portions of the Upstate and the Western Carolinas from 12a Sunday to 12a Monday.

The models continue to be updated by the National Weather Service but as of late Thursday afternoon, Franklin and Hart Counties are looking at a “wintery mess.”

Right now the forecast is for the winter storm to blow into Northeast Georgia East with northeast winds at 7 to 13 mph, and gusts as high as 22 mph.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Clay Chaney says we can expect a little bit of everything this weekend.

As for snow total amounts, Chaney said we could see 2-4 inches of snow Sunday before it’s over.

Now as you heard, this forecast could change either way before Saturday night and if it does we will keep you informed.

Most of the snow is expected in morning mixed with sleet changing over to mostly sleet by the afternoon.

The good news is the storm looks like it will move through fairly quickly and be out of our area for the most part by Sunday night.

Beginning Saturday night, WLHR News will keep you updated live and our Facebook page on any church and business closings Sunday.
