Winner of Lavonia City Hall Mural Contest Announced

A mural will soon be going up on the back of Lavonia City Hall.

On Tuesday, the Lavonia Downtown Development Authority announced the winner of their mural contest. The mural will overlook the new splash pad going in at Lavonia City Park directly behind city hall.

In January, the DDA launched the contest calling on local artists to send their concept designs.

At the time, DDA Executive Director Barbara Busby said they were looking for something with a whimsical feel that included water and the City’s logo. Busby said Tuesday they received a little over 30 entries.

Kevin Crane's submission won second place

The winning design was done by Linda Poss. She will receive $500. Second place went to Kevin Crane who will receive $200 and the third-place winner is Don Kelemen who will receive $100.

Don Keleman won third place for his rendering

Busby said Tuesday the next step is to have Poss’s design painted on the City Hall back wall.

Student artists from the Color the World Bright project will paint the mural on City Hall.

Busby said they hope to have the mural completed by the time the splash pad opens later this spring.
