Walter Gordon Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

1a2e7fcHart County attorney Walter Gordon has been awarded the Hart County Chamber of Commerce’s Lifetime Achievement Award for 2016.

Gordon received the award at the Chamber’s annual banquet last Friday night.

Chamber Executive Director Nicki Meyer said presenting Gordon with the Lifetime Achievement Award was an easy decision for her board.

“We just thought there wasn’t anybody in town that was more deserving of it,” Meyer said. “He does so many things behind the scenes. He’s just very giving of his time.”

Among the interests and activities Gordon has been involved in over the past several decades, Meyer pointed to his involvement in the Rotary, his work to bring the YMCA to Hartwell, and the many roles in which he has served at his church.

More recently, Gordon, who also serves as the attorney for Hart County, was one of the founders of the Hart County Community Players as well as the annual summer Music Fest at LongPoint Park.

Last year, Gordon also opened the new High Cotton Music Hall, which Meyer said has now made Hartwell an entertainment destination.

“He and Steve Crump are partners in that. We’re quickly becoming an entertainment destination because of that,” Meyer said.

The Chamber cited other contributions to the community by Gordon such as providing free legal services to religious organization and organizations such as Harmony House Child Advocacy Center, Hart County Clothes Closet, Friends of the Library, Northview Cemetery Association and the Hart County Humane Society.
