Voters in Stephens County and the town of Martin are going to the polls today also.

There are two elections in Stephens County – the Special Election for Stephens County residents, and the Town of Martin Municipal Election.

Stephens County Election Supervisor April Roberts says election day voting for Stephens County residents will be held at the Stephens County Senior Center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; whereas voting for the Town of Martin Municipal Election will be held at the Martin Community Center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On the ballot for the Martin Town Council will be two posts; vying for those posts are incumbents Roger Looney and Sandy Stovall along with Diane Cole.

Only residents in Martin will vote in the Martin municipal election.

Additionally, Stephens County residents will decide whether to approve the next Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for the Stephens County School System.

The E-SPLOST resolution, if approved by the voters, will allow the school system to continue to collect a one percent sales and use tax for the purpose of financing certain capital outlay projects for education purposes.

The one percent sales tax will automatically end, if the school system reaches $26 million of net proceeds by the tax.

Again, election day voting for E-SPLOST will be at the Stephens County Senior Center, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and election day voting for the Town of Martin’s two posts will be held at the Martin Community Center from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
