Urgent Need for Blood Donations Continues

As the end of summer approaches, the Blood Connection continues to have a shortage of blood for local hospitals, and the urgent need for donors continues.

That’s why they have scheduled a number of donation dates in our area.

Blood donors of all types are urgently needed through the summer and they are asking people of all blood types to roll up their sleeves and donate blood.

One donation can help up to three people.

Delisa English, TBC President, and CEO tells WLHR News that while you’re enjoying the remaining summer weeks please remember to donate blood.

She said historically, there is a higher demand for blood products in the summer and donations tend to drop off.

The sad reality is only three percent of the population donates blood, but one in seven people who enter a hospital will need a blood transfusion and the supply doesn’t keep up with the demand.

Blood donors must be healthy, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be at least 17 years old or 16 with written parental consent. Donors must also bring a valid photo ID.

All blood types are needed but especially type O Negative, which is the universal blood type that can be given to anyone regardless of their blood type.

The Blood Connection Bloodmobile will be at the following locations beginning this week;

Toccoa Falls College on Thursday from 10a to 3p.

Emmanuel College on Friday from 2p to 7p.

The Lavonia Police Department on Tuesday, August 30 from 2:30p – 7:30 pm

The Bell Family YMCA in Hartwell next Wednesday, August 31 from 8a to 10a and also at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church on Mt. Olivet Rd in Hart County from 3p to 7p.
