Upset in Franklin County Board of Education Races

Franklin County voters clearly want change on the Board of Education.

Tuesday, voters ousted two long-time incumbents in favor of new blood.

Board of Education Posts 1 and 2 were up for grabs.

In the Post 1 race, incumbent Joe Greene, who also serves as the Board Chair, lost his bid for another term to challenger, Royston business owner Eric Burrell.

Greene ran on a platform of continuing the progress the school system has made so far, while Burrell said he wants to continue his life service to the community by working on the school board.

When the votes were tallied, Burrell won over Greene by a vote of 1,689 votes to Greene’s 1500 votes.

And Dr. Pam Stone gave up her Post2 seat on the Board of Education Tuesday to retired educator Jo Beth James.

During a political forum earlier this month, James said she is committed to change.

The final total for the Post 2 seat had James over Smith by a vote of 1,931 to Stone’s 1,283 votes.
