United Way of NE GA Uses 211 Program to Connect Citizens in Crisis With Help

The United Way of Northeast Georgia is reminding everyone about their 211 program that helps people in crisis.

Allison Alwes is the Director of Marketing and Outreach for the Northeast Georgia chapter of the United Way.

Alwes says their 211 Contact Center connects families with the community-based resources they need to thrive.

“211 is our health and human services program,” she said. “It’s offered to anybody, anytime for free. It is a way to connect you with local services that are local for you. United Way of Northeast Georgia covers 12 counties, but our 211 program actually covers 15. You can call 211 from any phone, you can text your ZIP code to 898211 and get an immediate response or you can go online to unitedwaynega.org to be connected to a database.”

According to Alwes, the 211 Contact Center can connect people with whatever kind or kinds of help they might need as quickly as possible.

More than 200 programs, faith-based institutions and other organizations are listed in the 211 databases

And Alwes pointed out that you can call even if you have more than one need.

United Way’s 211 is free, confidential, and available 365 days a year in 140 different languages serving 15 counties in Northeast Georgia including Banks, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Hart, Jackson, Madison, and Stephens counties.

According to United Way, last year, 80% of callers who contacted 211 were able to get the resources they needed.
