Two Incidents Involving Altercations on Two Franklin County School Campuses, Arrests Made in One

Two incidents this week at Franklin County High School and Franklin County Middle School have two women facing charges.

According to Acting School Superintendent Chuck Colquitt, the first incident happened at the high school Tuesday night after the game against Hart County.

Colquitt said a confrontation happened between an adult and a juvenile. Law enforcement was on the scene immediately and investigated the incident.

“The results of the investigation found the two individuals involved were posturing to fight,” Colquitt said. “There was an allegation of a weapon being brandished but the investigation could not confirm that.”

No word if any charges were filed in that incident.

At the Middle School, Colquitt said that during a middle school sports parent meeting, two female parents got into a physical altercation.

One of the parents involved was found to be in possession of a gun.

Wednesday night, Sheriff Thomas identified the two women as Melinda Umholtz and Crystal Dawn Parten.

Umholtz was charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Property.  Parten was charged with Battery.

Magistrate Judge Cody Grizzle set bond at $5,000 each. Both Umholtz and Parten have since bonded out of jail with the condition that they have no contact with each other and are barred from going on any Franklin County School property.

“The Franklin County School System takes these two incidents seriously and we will make every effort to ensure the safety of students, employees, fans, and the community,” Colquitt said.
