Truck Carrying Giant Generator Stuck at Lavonia Intersection

Traffic was tied up for about an hour in Lavonia Wedneday morning when an 18-wheeler carrying a huge generator got stuck at the only major intersection in town.

Authorities say the gooseneck trailer was carrying a generator on its way to North Carolina, but because of its size and length, the trailer couldn’t make the turn from SR17 onto SR59.

Police stopped traffic in both directions while crews from HeavyTow trucking worked to lift the trailer up off the curb so it could make the turn and continue on.

No word on where in North Carolina the truck is heading, but WLHR News has learned the company received several special permits from the Georgia Department of Transportation in order to move the generator through Georgia via State Routes rather than on I-85.
