Travelers’ Rest Historic Site Expands Weekend Hours

A nearby State historic site has expanded its weekend hours.

Last Sunday, Traveler’s Rest State Historic Site opened its doors on Sundays for the first time in a number of years.

Built in the early 1800s, the historic inn, originally known as Jarrett Manor was a popular stopping point along what was then known as the Unicoi Turnpike.

Today, visitors can tour the furnished the 6,000 square foot home and numerous outbuildings.

Traveler’s Rest is located on Riverdale Road, six miles east of Toccoa off of U.S. Highway 123.

28th District State Representative Dan Gasaway noted the historic inn preserves an important part of Northeast Georgia history for the community and state.

And State Senator John Wilkinson said he appreciates the Georgia Department Of Natural Resources working to help ensure the public has additional opportunities to visit Traveler’s Rest.

Traveler’s Rest is open Saturday and Sunday 9 a to 5 p.  Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youth.  For more information, call 706-886-2256.
