Traffic Stop Results in Arrest of Two North Carolina Men

Two North Carolina men are behind bars in Franklin County on multiple drug charges

Their arrests came Monday evening at 8p on I-85, according to Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas.

Thomas said a black BMW was pulled over at mile marker 173 northbound for failure to maintain lane and broken tail light.

“During the traffic stop, a K-9 was deployed to conduct a free air vehicle sniff of the suspects’ vehicle,” Thomas said. “That resulted in a positive alert for narcotics. A probable cause search was conducted on the vehicle, which uncovered a small plastic bag containing suspected cocaine, a sealed plastic bag containing one pound of suspected marijuana, a small plastic container containing suspect THC extract and loaded firearms.”

The driver, 27-year old Robert Jarvis of Asheville, NC was charged with failure to maintain lane, taillight violations, expired registration, possession of marijuana, possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance, and possession of cocaine.

His passenger, identified as 25-year old Valdez Penland of Lancaster, NC was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Both remain in the Franklin County jail.
