The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado did touch down in Banks County overnight Wednesday.

Banks County Emergency Management Agency Director Deidra Moore said the tornado was an EF1 with wind speeds between 86-110 miles per hour.

The tornado, which hit about midnight Tuesday, caused damage to homes and properties along a nine-mile stretch of the county, but despite the high winds, authorities say most the damage was minor and no injuries were reported.

“Here at the Banks County Sheriff’s Office, we are grateful and extremely thankful that no one was hurt and only minor damages were reported after a possible tornado passed through our county,” said Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed.
