Toddler Falls in Fire Pit at Hart County Campground

A toddler is in the Augusta Burn Center this morning after falling into a fire pit at a camp ground in Hart County.

It happened Monday afternoon at the Paynes Creek Campground, according to Hart County EMA Director Terrell Partain.  Partain said the child was playing with other children at the campground when he fell backwards into the fire pit and onto hot coals.

Emergency crews responded within minutes and the child was airlifted.

“Any burns on a kid are bad and painful,” Partain said. “So any burns on a child, especially with someone that age, means they have to go to a burn center.”

No word on the condition of the child nor the extent of his burns.  The name of the child is not being released.

Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland tells WLHR News the incident has been ruled an accident and no charges will be filed.
