The Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter gets its man.

Shelter Board Chair Harold Andrews said Wednesday that Jeff Roberts of Norfolk, Virginia has verbally accepted the shelter board’s offer to take its shelter director position.

Andrews said he is overjoyed to have Roberts officially come on board.

“He is enthusiastic and I firmly believe and he indicated that he is overjoyed and eager to get here and get started,” said Andrews.

Roberts was most recently the Chief Executive Officer of the Norfolk SPCA.

His resume references a total of 14 years working with animal welfare organizations.

Besides his time at the Norfolk SPCA from 2009 to 2012, Roberts’ resume states that he has worked for various other animal shelter organizations, primarily in the Atlanta area.

Roberts said he is eager to jump in to the position.

“I am very impressed with the new facility, the people that work there, and the commitment from the board to continue to make improvements to the welfare of the animals in the community,” said Roberts.

He said his top priority is the care of the animals.

“Always improving animal care and the well-being of animals in the community and a lot of educational efforts that go towards responsible pet ownership and working to cut down the number of animals that are euthanized in the community,” said Roberts.

Andrews says the target date for Roberts starting in Toccoa is August 1.  Roberts replaces Bob Citrullo, who resigned in March.
