TOCCOA MAN RECEIVES 60-YEAR SENTENCE FOR AUGUST 2021 SHOOTINGS

A Toccoa man was sentenced to 60 years in prison following a three-day trial in the Superior Court of Stephens County.

Last week, a Stephens County Jury found 32-year-old Antuan Demetrius Prather guilty of three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to a press release from the Mountain Judicial Circuit Court.

On August 1, 2021, Prather shot an individual who was unknown to him at Buddy’s Kwik Stop on Big A Road and fled the scene.

An hour later, he shot two more individuals who were working at Tony’s General Store on Hwy 123.

Prather was apprehended shortly after the second shooting by the Toccoa Police Department.

Superior Court Judge Chan Caudell sentenced Prather to 60 years to serve in the state penal system, followed by 10 years on probation.

The State of Georgia was represented by Chief Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Boykin, along with Assistant District Attorney Rebecca James.

The case was handled by Special Agent Cliff Tippens of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

They were assisted by the Toccoa Police Department and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
