Wanted: Volunteers to Jump in the Lake for a Good Cause

It’s time for you to make your plans to go jump in the lake.

Plans are in the works for the 24th Annual Polar Bear Plunge coming the last Saturday of the month.

Sponsored by the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence, the Plunge will again take place at the Hartwell Marina on Saturday, February 29th.

All monies raised will go toward victim services.  Teresa Neese is this year’s event coordinator.  Neese says now is the time for those wanting to participate to sign up.

“We will take registrations prior to the event and on the day of,” she said. “A lot of people decide to wait until the day of because they’re trying to decide if they want to jump. However, they need to go ahead and start raising money, that’s for sure.”

Neese says they ask participants to raise $150 in order to jump.

That, she said, can be done a number of ways such as getting a sponsor or putting something on your Facebook page encouraging people to pay a certain amount to see you jump.

And again, this year the Polar Bear Plunge will also include the annual Winter Festival, which Neese says will feature good food and interesting items for sale.

“We will have the winter festival where we will have food and vendors,” she said. “This year we will have the Smokin’ Lake Hartwell BBQ. They’ve already signed up to be there and will be preparing some great BBQ on site. We will have the costume contest where jumpers will have a little parade before they jump and we will have a cake walk.”

Jump registration is from 11a to noon with the costume contest and jump at 12:30p.

The Winter Festival begins at 11a and admission is free.
