Three Killed in House Fire in Elbert County.

The State Fire Marshal’s office continues their investigation into a house fire in Elberton that left three people dead.

According to Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King, it happened in the overnight hours of Saturday, November 11.

King said that at approximately 2:30 a.m. on November 11, a home fire with multiple trapped occupants was reported to Elbert County Emergency Services.

When firefighters arrived they found the residence fully involved with flames and immediately began to try and put out the blaze.

After the fire was contained, firefighters were able to enter the home to search for possible victims, only to find that all three occupants had succumbed to the fire.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office conducted a fire scene examination and determined the cause to be a dryer that was operating overnight.

This fire has been classified as accidental.

The bodies were sent to the GBI Crime Lab for positive identification. Their names have not yet been released.

King reminds Georgians that when doing laundry you should turn off the dryer when leaving home or going to bed, and always clean the lint trap before each load of laundry.
