Thomas said the pair allegedly held up the Subway on Exit 160 in Carnesville at gunpoint Saturday afternoon.

“A black male with a firearm, entered the store and demanded money,” Thomas said Monday. “No one else was in the store except the clerk. After the black male exited the store, witnesses observed a black male enter a silver gray Ford vehicle and speed away from the scene. Witnesses were able to provide deputies with a direction of travel, which was I-85 Northbound.”

Deputies spotted the vehicle on I-85 and attempted to stop it, but the suspects sped off and a chase began up the Interstate into South Carolina.

“The chase continued on I-85 where Anderson County officers used the stop-sticks to deflate the suspects’ tires,” he said. “The vehicle stopped near the 21 mile marker where both suspects were taken into custody without incident.”

Thomas said as the suspects sped away, the suspects threw what deputies believed was a gun out the window near the Georgia/South Carolina state line.

Later, he said, deputies saw more items being thrown out; that authorities believe was the stolen money.

“Investigators spent the afternoon collecting evidence along I-85, processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses,” Thoma said. “Investigators secured felony warrants Sunday for the suspects for the offense of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.”

Thomas said Head and Cook were taken to the Anderson County Detention Center. Late Monday Thomas said he hopes to have the pair back in Franklin County to face those charges soon.
