Stephens County Voters Decide on SPLOST Referendum

Stephens County voters are heading to the polls today.

It is election day and two elections highlight the ballot in Stephens County.

One is the SPLOST VI referendum.  If it passes, SPLOST VI would continue the one-cent special purpose local option sales tax for another six years.

Stephens County Registrar Theresa Kelley reminds county residents intending to cast a ballot on SPLOST VI today  that they will all vote at one location for the first time ever.

“Anyone voting in the SPLOST VI referendum today will go to the Toccoa-Stephens County Senior Center today to vote. We have consolidated all eight precincts into one and that precinct is at the Toccoa-Stephens County Senior Center,” Kelley said.

The other election taking place today is in Martin, where voters will elect a mayor.  Incumbent Don Foster is running for another term against challenger Thomas Looney.   Kelley says voters in Martin will need to go two different locations to vote if they are casting ballots in both elections.

“You will vote at the Martin Community Center for the Martin municipal election and then you will go to the Toccoa Senior Center to vote in the SPLOST VI referendum,” she said.

Polls at both the Senior Center in Toccoa and the Martin Community Center will be open from 7a to 7 p.
