The Stephens County Board of Elections is scrambling to handle early voting after their newly appointed Elections Supervisor suddenly walked out.

Election Supervisor Krista Terry tendered her resignation on Tuesday, October 18, effective immediately.

Shortly after, Stephens County Poll Manager Sheila McClain also resigned.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers says Poll Worker Harriett Allgood has agreed to take over McClain’s responsibilities.

Ayers said the Board of Elections and Registration for Stephens County will handle the Election Superintendent’s responsibilities until the position can be filled. Ayers added that they have begun advertising the position.

In a prepared statement Board of Elections Chair, Sean Black praised Terry for doing  “a phenomenal job” as Elections Supervisor.

“We are sad that Krista Terry has chosen to resign as Election Supervisor for Stephens County. She has done a phenomenal job in that position. She was energetic, hardworking, and conscientious,” he said. “Ms. Terry had better opportunities and was tired of dealing with the constant harassment that seems to be an unfortunate part of our current political landscape. It is a loss to the county that she cannot continue as supervisor. We hoped that she would stay. Our support for her and the job that she did is unanimous. We wish her well going forward.”

Black did not specify where the constant harassment was coming from nor what that harassment entailed.

Black said the County and the Elections Board will ensure that the General Election moves forward.
