Stephens County Closes Convenience Centers

By Ethan Jordan, WNEG Radio, Toccoa

The Stephens County Government has announced that the Convenience Centers throughout the county will no longer process recyclables, effective April 1.

According to Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers, the change is due to a significant increase in the cost to haul and process recyclable.

She says the haul rate has increased by 140 percent.

As an actual comparison for one month, according to Ayers, 20 hauls at the old rate is $3,000 compared to the new rate of $7,200.

Again, all Stephens County Convenience Centers will no longer process recyclables, effective immediately.
