SR174 Repaving Begins Today

If SR174 in Franklin County is one of your main routes to and from work, you need to prepared for some delays beginning today.

Work to resurface a four and a half mile stretch of SR174 began this morning.

Teri Pope with the Georgia Department of Transportation tells WLHR News the resurfacing will stretch from U.S.29/SR8 to SR51 in Franklin Springs.

A flagger and/or a pilot vehicle will direct traffic through the work zone daily, but delays are expected as work occurs.

Pope said both lanes of SR174 will be resurfaced.  The project she said will begin with crews removing damaged sections of asphalt and patching them.  Once the full length of the project is patched, resurfacing will begin.

Work will occur weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., no work is planned on Saturdays or Sundays.

This 4.572 mile long project was awarded to C.W. Matthews Construction Inc of Marietta, Georgia for a contract cost of $697,201.32.

The project completion date is August 31, 2013.
