Amy Fleming received a 30 yr sentence in Georgia for her part in the 2021 armed robberies in Carnesville and Lavonia

Continuing our Year in Review: a South Carolina woman indicted last year for her part in two armed robberies in Franklin County has been sentenced to 30 years in a Georgia State prison with 15 to serve plus $4000 in court fines.

On September 29, 25-year-old Amy Denise Fleming pleaded guilty to four of the 10 felony counts she was indicted on last March.

In Franklin County Superior Court, Fleming pleaded guilty to two counts of Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony for which she received 15 years on the first count and another 10 years on the second count.

Fleming also pleaded guilty to Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony for which she received another five years, and two counts of Aggravated Assault for which she received another 10 years.

According to the indictment on January 21, 2021, Fleming and an accomplice Artis O’Neal Wright robbed the Petro BP store on Old Federal Highway at gunpoint.

In that case, Amy Fleming was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The indictment stated Fleming had within arm’s reach a Rossi .38 caliber revolver at the time of that alleged crime. Both were also charged with Aggravated Assault for pointing that firearm at the store employee.

The couple was also indicted for an attempted smash-and-grab burglary at Lakemont Jewelers in Lavonia on the night of Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

One of the suspects tried to smash the door of the jeweler after the store had closed, which triggered an alarm and the couple fled.

From there, the couple then went to the Royal Foods convenience store in Lavonia at the corner of Vickery St. where Wright allegedly entered the store wearing a black mask and carrying a gun and demanded money.

The pair fled with $904 according to the indictment.

Lavonia Police investigators worked with Oconee County, South Carolina Sheriff’s investigators and according to Police Chief Bruce Carlisle, information was developed from tips from the public and they learned that the suspects were from South Carolina.

After numerous attempts by the Oconee County Sheriff’s investigators to find the couple, they were spotted in Westminster, SC and a high-speed chase ensued.

That chase ended in North Carolina. Both Wright and Fleming are also charged in North and South Carolina. So far, Wright, Fleming’s accomplice has not gone to trial.
