South Carolina Man Arrested in Banks Crossing for Vehicle Theft

Michael Curtis WinkleA Greenville, SC man is behind bars in Banks County, charged with stealing a pick up truck.

According to Banks County spokesperson Sgt. Carissa McFaddin, it happened Saturday at a convenience store in Banks Crossing.

McFaddin said 56-year old Michael Curtis Winkle allegedly took a Chevy S10 pick up truck from the RaceTrack gas station at Exit 149 in Banks Crossing.

“Deputies happened to be in the area when the call was given out,” McFaddin said. “They spotted the truck on I-85 northbound and made a traffic stop on Exit 154 and were able to arrest Mr. Winkle.”

The owner of the pick up told deputies he had gone inside Racetrack to pay for his gas when he saw Winkle get inside his truck and drive away.

McFaddin said Winkle reportedly told officers he took the truck Saturday because his girlfriend had stolen his truck on Friday, leaving him stranded in Banks Crossing with no way to get back  home to Greenville.

Winkle is charged with one count of theft of a motor vehicle and he remains in the Banks County Detention Center.
