Sketch of Suspected Kidnapper Released

Suspected kidnapper sketchLavonia Police have released an artist’s sketch of the suspect who tried to abduct a teenage girl earlier this week.

The 17-year old was jogging through the downtown area Tuesday evening when a man came up behind her and tried to grab her.

Police Chief Bruce Carlisle said a sketch artist with the GBI was called and worked Thursday with the victim to come up with a drawing of the suspect.  Carlisle said they plan to release that sketch today to law enforcement statewide.

The suspect is described as a black male, muscular build with a clean-shaven face and short gray hair.  His intended victim was able to get away and run for help, however she was not able to see if the suspect got away in a vehicle or on foot.

“The victim said the suspect was waiting behind a building at the corner of Main and Grogan Sts and when she came to that corner he came up behind her and grabbed her,” Carlisle said. “She was able to get away and run for help, but she was not able to give us much else other than what she saw when he grabbed her.”

Since Tuesday, Carlisle said they have received numerous tips and they’re following up on each one and he said they’r e not ruling anything out.
