Sign-up Taking Place for Free Junior Firefighter Day in Carnesville

Franklin County is always in need of a few good men and women to serve in their volunteer fire departments.

Now two firehouses are looking to the future in the hopes of getting a new generation interested in one day becoming firefighters in Franklin County.

Next week, the Carnesville and Red Hill Fire Departments, along with Smitty’s BBQ will host the first-ever Junior Firefighter Day on June 1st at the Carnesville Fire Department.

And they are looking for interested young people, ages 9 to 11 to sign up.

The class is free but will be limited to 25 students because of the kind of training they’ll be doing.

During the day, those young people enrolled will get hands-on training on topics such as CPR, first aid, fire safety, fire extinguisher operations, Low visibility smoke egress, and vehicle extrication.

They will also be allowed to run a mock fire call in a fire truck.

The class will take place from 9a to 3p and lunch will be provided by Smitty’s BBQ.

If you would like to sign your child up for the class you can email [email protected] and the deadline to register is Monday, May 30.

All forms will have to be completed before a child will be allowed to participate.
