Short Meeting for Franklin County Commission

It was a short meeting for Franklin County Commissioners Monday night.

Of the two items listed on the agenda, one was tabled.

The Board tabled a vote on whether to approve a new contract for lease space on one of their transmitter towers.

According to County Manager Beth Thomas, the county is considering leasing space on a tower on Gerrard Road in Lavonia to Georgia Power.

“The Georgia State Patrol had some communication equipment up there, but last year they pulled their equipment down. When they did that, we lost about $600 a month in rental fees. Now Georgia Power is interested in putting communication equipment in that same location,” Thomas said.

Thomas said Georgia Power is willing to pay $500 a month to lease tower space.

A contract has been drawn up but Monday night Thomas said her office was still waiting to hear from Georgia Power.

“Bubba sent the contract to the other company, but unfortunately we has not gotten the contract back,” Thomas told the board. “So it’s not finalized at this point. My recommendation is that we table this until we get that contract back.”

After hearing from Thomas the board voted to table the matter.

The only other item of business, Monday had to do with a repaving project.

Commissioners voted unanimously to hire Stratton & Sons to repave the middle parking lot of the Rocky Ford Recreation Center in Carnesville.

Stratton & Sons had the lowest of the five bids submitted at $57,000.

Monies from SPLOST IV will pay for the project.
