Shop Small on Small Business Saturday

If you plan on getting some Christmas shopping done this weekend, why not shop small?

Saturday is Small Business Saturday – a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities.

The Small Business Administration notes that this year, small businesses need our support more than ever as they navigate, retool, and pivot from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Royston is kicking off a series of holiday events beginning this weekend and one of them is encouraging people to shop local businesses, according to Downtown Development and Main Street Director Michael Crump.

“We’ll have the Holiday Market at the Depot and also the merchants will be open as part of Small Business Saturday,” Crump said.

And in Lavonia, if you spend $26 at any downtown or local business on Saturday you can be entered to win a $100 gift certificate to the merchant of your choice.

All you have to do is make a $26 or more purchase at a Lavonia small business and then email a photo of your receipt to the Lavonia DDA by 5p on Monday.

Founded by American Express in 2010 and officially cosponsored by SBA since 2011, Small Business Saturday has become an important part of small businesses’ busiest shopping season.

Historically, reported projected spending among U.S. consumers who shopped at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday reached an estimated $23.3 billion according to the 2021 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey commissioned by American Express.
