Sheriff Thomas Responds to Stacy Abrams “Good Ole Boy” Comment

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas is one of the dozens of Georgia Sheriffs who are furious with comments made by Democratic candidate for Governor Stacy Abrams.

In a recent debate, when Kemp noted he had the support of 170 Sheriffs. Abrams retorted she wasn’t part of the quote, “good ole boys club.”

Her comments infuriated Sheriffs across the State, including Thomas who, in an open letter to Abrams said, “ We are living in the most transparent period in Law Enforcement history. Everyone has a smartphone, officers have body cam recordings and the media follows up on all allegations of misconduct reported. The truth of enforcement activities are plain to see by anyone who takes the time to look at the facts presented before the courts, grand juries, and prosecutors. All deputies and detention officers working at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office are dedicated to serving every citizen of Franklin County.”

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum, the second elected female sheriff in state history, recently told Fox News Digital that she found the comments, “disgusting” and indicative that Abrams didn’t care about law enforcement.

She said, “I don’t care as a sheriff what color your skin is. We take an oath to serve and protect the people and enforce the laws of the state of Georgia,” she said. “And that’s what we do every day. It was an insult to the Georgia sheriffs that are supporting him and all law enforcement…”.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith agreed with Mangum, telling Fox News the comment was a  “slap in the face” to Georgia voters who backed the sheriffs in their areas, as well as every officer of every race in his department.

Sheriff Thomas in his open letter added, “We have had two officers make the ultimate sacrifice serving our community. I find the recent comments made by Ms. Abrams to be both extremely offensive and disturbing coming from a person who states she wants to represent all Georgians.”

Mangum added after serving in law enforcement for 36 she has never done anything to tarnish her badge, and her fellow sheriffs are good people that are supporting Kemp.

“And I was just kind of disgusted to hear it… I don’t even know what to say, it’s just wrong. It’s just absolutely wrong.” she said.
