Services Planned Across Our Area Today for the National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is today and several local communities will be holding community prayer services.

This year’s theme is EXALT THE LORD WHO HAS ESTABLISHED US from Colossians 2:6 & 7, which says, “Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.”

In Franklin County, there will be a community prayer service on the Franklin County Courthouse grounds in Carnesville at noon.

There will also be a prayer service at noon on the grounds of the Franklin Springs City Hall.

In Hart County, pastors from seven area churches will gather on the lawn of the Hart County Courthouse square in downtown Hartwell at noon to pray for our country.

The Interdenominational Women’s Bible Study is the sponsor for Hart County’s National Day of Prayer service. 92.1 WLHR will carry the Hart County National Day of Prayer live at noon from the square in downtown Hartwell.

Additionally, in Toccoa-Stephens County, the annual National Day of Prayer observance is set to start at noon on the lawn of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

At all of the services on the National Day of Prayer seven specific areas are prayed for, including the country’s government and leadership, education, the media, the economy, churches, the family unit, and the military.

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer.

In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

At 8 p.m., on May 5, the National Day of Prayer Broadcast from the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C. will be aired live on GodTV, Daystar, Salem, Bott, and Moody Radio networks as well as on websites and social media platforms.
