Sentencing Phase Begins For Former Bank Teller Convicted of Stealing

The sentencing phase for a former Northeast Georgia Bank teller who was convicted for
conspiring to steal from her employer is now underway. On Wednesday, 35-year-old Casie Alane Maxey of Hartwell was found guilty for her part in stealing approximately $72,000 from the branch where she worked, located on 1028 Benson Street in Hartwell. Jurors convicted Maxey on three charges: one count of Burglary in the Second Degree and two counts of Theft By Taking. Maxey was taken to the Hart County Detention Center after the trial wrapped.  Superior Court Judge Chris Phelps has ordered a pre-sentence investigation.  Judge Phelps will decide her sentence sometime within the next few weeks.

The cases for Maxey’s co-conspirators, 29-year-old Jon Sebastian Clinton and 28-year-old
Dustin James Clinton, both of Hartwell, have already been adjudicated. Dustin James Clinton was sentenced in 2019 to 5-years to serve. According to the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton is incarerated at the Johnson State Prison.  Jon Sebastian Clinton was sentenced in 2018 to 3 years to serve and has since been released. Both were also ordered to pay restitution.
