Second Lavonia PD Scam Seminar in Planning Stages

Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle says his Department’s community outreach program on scams earlier this week had a good turnout.

“I believe the seminar went very well and was well attended,” he said. “We had good attendance and the participants that were there were interactive. They were able to share their experiences with the audience, the things that they had encountered in the past, which made it more interesting. We were able to share some real-life situations that had happened here in Lavonia and everyone that was in attendance afterward thanked me for presenting the class and felt like they had learned something from what we had done.”

At the scams seminar at the Lavonia Train Depot Tuesday evening, Chief Carlisle gave an overview of 17 of the most common scams people fall victim to and gave examples of people in Lavonia who had fallen victim to one of them.

The Chief said, however, he plans to offer the seminar on scams a second time, but as a lunchtime program.

“We believe that this is such an important thing for people to know that we’re planning to offer it again but this time during the lunchtime hour,” he explained. “We will be providing lunch for those in attendance. So if everyone pays attention to WLHR and our Facebook page to make sure that you know when those dates are so we can have you in attendance with us.”

So far, the date and time for the second seminar on scams has not yet been set.

WLHR News will announce the next one when details become available.
