Royston Welcomes New Police Lieutenant, Code Enforcement Officer

The Royston Police Department has a new Police Lieutenant.

At the Royston City council meeting Tuesday evening, Police Chief Donnie Boleman introduced Daniel Smith as their new Lieutenant.

Chief Boleman said Lt. Smith will be third in charge and comes from a law enforcement background.

Lt. Smith told the Council he wasn’t planning on going back to a career in law enforcement but he’s glad he did.

“I went and talked with the Police Department and it worked out to where I accepted a job and I ended up on night shift. I’ve been on the night shift since August. So these last three days have been my first three days on the day shift. I can tell you all I’ve held higher positions in Sheriff’s offices and I didn’t have to do anything as far as promotion-wise compared to what I had to do in Royston. That being said, the policies and procedures and the things you have in place, work and I think they work for a reason,” he told the Council and Mayor.

The City of Royston also welcomed its new City Code Enforcement Officer.

He is Jacob Fannin.

City Manager Sharleen Ayers told the Council Fannin has hit the ground running.

Fannin said he’s excited to be serving the citizens of Royston.

“I appreciate the vote of confidence in hiring me for this position. I appreciate Miss Ayers and Chief Boleman and everything they’ve done. So, if you need me, call me, even after 5p. I’m always here, and I assure you I’ll do everything I can to remain an asset to the City and not a liability. I want to continue what Jared had already been doing and try to continue moving forward in that direction,” he said.

Fannin replaces Jared Hightower who is now with the Franklin County Marshal’s office.
