Royston to Discuss New City Manager Search Tonight

The Royston City Council is expected to discuss their next move in finding a new city manager.

Last month, former city manager Greg Scott announced he was resigning to take a position with the the 290th Joint Communications Support Squadron of the U.S. Air National Guard at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa.

Scott had been city manager since 2007.   At the time, Royston mayor David Jordan said there was no hurry to find Scott’s replacement.

“If there’s a time for us to have a change in management at City Hall, then this is a good time to do it,” Jordan said. “We’re in the process of completing some major projects right now and our department head leadership is able to keep us on track.”

According to Jordan, the City is not looking at starting a lot of new projects in the near future.

In other business, the city council is also expected to discuss an plan by the Frankllin County commission to expand natural gas service throughout the county.

At a special work session to discuss the county jail expansion last month, commissioner David Strickland suggested combining both the jail expansion and natural gas service expansion in one bond issue.

But Jordan told the commission the City had not discussed a plan to expand countywide and he had no hard numbers for what that expansion would cost.

Tonight’s city council meeting begins at 6:30p at the Royston City Police Department.
