According to Royston Police Chief Donnie Boleman, the cars were found late Wednesday night near the Elbert County line in the Holly Springs area in Hart County.

“Through a process of investigation and interviewing people we were able to locate a barn in Hart County where the vehicles were being stored – an old abandoned barn,” Boleman said. “Some modifications were being done to them.”

A 1956 black and chrome Chevy Belair and a 2015 Orange Dodge Challenger with a black racing stripe were stolen from Tri-County Chevrolet sometime over the New Year’s holiday weekend.

Tri-County had offered a $10,000 reward for their return.

Since then, Royston Police have been working with Franklin County and Hart County Sheriff’s office to find the vehicles.

Boleman said he is grateful for the team effort that led to the cars and their recovery.

“Just thankful for all the participation we have had from county law enforcement,” he said. “Sheriff Stevie Thomas and the Franklin County Sheriff’s office. Sheriff Thomas and his crew helped us with many leads and possible suspects. Sheriff Cleveland helped us Wednesday night with the investigation. It’s been great team work to make this happen.”

Meantime, Boleman said the search continues for the suspects involved in the auto thefts.

Anyone with information as to the suspects’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Royston Police Department at 706-245-6196.
