At the time, we reported the GBI was assisting in the investigation and evidence in the case had been turned over to them.

However, according to Royston Police Chief Donnie Boleman, that is not the case.

On Wednesday, Chief Boleman issued a clarification on the GBI’s role in the ongoing investigation.

“We’re part of the GBI Intel network and we meet monthly to discuss open cases in our area,” Boleman explained. “We have shared all of our information on the stolen vehicle case with that network in case surrounding counties have similar cases or possible suspects that could be linked to this type of case.”

Boleman said his investigators have been working closely with the Franklin County Sheriff’s office to find the suspects and the two vehicles.

“Sheriff Stevie Thomas and myself have spent a lot of man hours and with our resources combined we are still tracking down many leads, sources and ideas people have had,” Boleman said. “We’re thankful for him and investigator LeCroy for helping us with this.”

Over the New Year’s weekend, a 1956 Black and Chrome Chevy Belair and a 2015 Orange Dodge Challenger with a black racing stripe were stolen from Tri-County Chevrolet in Royston.

The dealership is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading the recovery of the cars and the arrest of the suspects involved.
