Royston Looking Inside First for New City Manager

The City of Royston is looking inside to find its new city manager.

The town has been without a city manager for the past two weeks after the departure of Greg Scott who resigned to take a communications job with the U.S. Air National Guard in Florida.

At their regular meeting Tuesday night, the Royston City council voted to offer the job to city employees first.

After coming out of executive session, Mayor David Jordan said the council had come to a decision on how to conduct the search.

“We want to open it up to our employees first,” Jordan said after the meeting Tuesday. “We have some very qualified employees and some have indicated to me that they are interested in applying for the job. We don’t want to open it up to the general public if we possibly have someone in-house who could fill the position.”

Jordan said if no good candidate is found internally, the city will then advertise the job to the general public.

Neither the City Council nor the mayor had a timeline for when a new city  manager would be in place, but Jordan said they hoped to have an announcement at their next meeting in May.
