Royston Couple Recovering After Shooting

Two people in Franklin County are recovering after a domestic argument resulted in shots fired.

It happened Saturday night at a home on Highway 145 outside of Royston.

Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said his officers were called to the home late Saturday night after one of the residents, identified as Shannon Cartwright, age unknown, told dispatchers she and her boyfriend had been shot.

“When deputies arrived, they found a white female in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the back of her right shoulder,” Thomas said. “They also found a white male, identified as Marshal Hart, on the front porch with a gunshot wound to the right leg.”

Both Cartwright and Hart were taken to Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment.  Thomas said Cartwright admitted later that she and Hart had been fighting over the gun and it went off.

“Cartwright and Hart had been living together for some time,” Thomas said. “Deputies recovered an automatic handgun on the porch, which is believed to have been the weapon used in this incident.”

Thomas said his investigators continue to work on the case and no charges have yet been filed against either victim.
