Royston Considers Hiring Outside Firm for Building Inspections

The City of Royston is considering adding a building inspector to its list of city services.

At their work session Tuesday, the Royston City Council and Mayor Keith Turman heard from Gary Fesperman.

Fesperman pointed out that the City currently has no building inspector and with development on the horizon, he recommended hiring an outside company to do building inspections for the city.

Fesperman recommended Bureau Veritas. With offices in Winder, Bureau Veritas is a world leader in testing, inspection, and certification services (TIC).

Fesperman said representatives gave a presentation to the Mayor and City Manager regarding which services they could provide the City.

He also pointed out that surrounding counties and municipalities have also contracted with Bureau Veritas to conduct building inspections on new construction.

To date, Franklin and Hart counties, the City of Lavonia, and the City of Carnesville have contracted with Bureau Veritas for their services, according to Fesperman.

No vote was taken but the City Council and Mayor will look over the material Fesperman provided.
