Royston Charter School Meeting this Evening at Royston Elementary School

A reminder for Royston citizens that they are invited to a special town hall meeting tonight to learn about how to turn the current Royston Elementary School into an independent charter school.

Spearheading the effort is Wesley Fricks who is running for the Royston City Council Post 2 seat.

Fricks said there are still many people in the town who are unhappy about the Franklin County School system moving Royston Elementary School students to the new South Franklin Elementary School currently under construction in Carnesville.

He said the town hall meeting tonight will be held in the gym at Royston Elementary to discuss what would be involved in setting up a charter school.

Fricks said as a charter school, it would not be under the Franklin County Charter School system but would operate as an LEA or Local Education Agency and would be funded by State and Federal monies already designated for the establishment of Charter schools in Georgia.

Another advantage he said is that students living in Hart or surrounding counties would be able to attend the charter school.

One of the issues that would need to be worked out, Fricks said, would be whether to renovate the current school building or build a new one.

Again, the town hall meeting regarding establishing an independent charter elementary school in Royston takes place this evening from 5p to 7p in the gym at Royston Elementary School.
