Ribbon Cutting Held For New Coffee Shop in Lavonia

Lavonia has a new coffee bar and business is already booming.

On Friday, a ribbon cutting was held for Gloria’s Daily Grind on Main St.

The coffee shop opened three weeks ago, officially, serving your favorite blends of Caribou Coffees, teas, as well as fruit juices and Fiji water.

They also serve a host of pastries and muffins.

Owned and operated by Josh and Tina Johnson, the couple moved to Lavonia from the Colorado Springs area last year, bringing Josh’s mother Gloria with them.

Gloria Johnson said their journey to Northeast Georgia was led by God and the desire to start a new life.

“My son-in-law and daughter were down in Florida, and her father lives here in Georgia, and I also have family in Georgia,” said Johnson. “They were just coming through on the way back to Colorado, and noticed how beautiful it was, and the price of property. So, they made the decision to move down. My husband passed away right before they move down. So, I came along with them, and that’s how we landed here.”

Johnson said they have been amazed by how well the coffee shop is doing.

She says they have been enriched by the customers and the warm welcome they’ve received.

“We are so blessed to be able to meet the community. Lavonia is a very special little town. I live in Lavonia, and the community is just awesome. We’ve been so enriched by the people that have came through the door. There is a very sweet spirit about it. We tried to open up a coffee shop in another local town, and it just did not mesh. So, we started looking in Lavonia, and it’s just been seamless every since,” said Johnson.

Gloria’s Daily Grind is open Monday through Saturday from 6a to 3p.
