Recycling Business Petitions Bowman to Locate There

A new business may be soon coming to Elbert County, more specifically, the City of Bowman.

At the Bowman City Council’s work session earlier this week, Jermie and Amy Tank came before council with a proposal to open Bowman Recycling in the currently vacant LB Berryman Building, known as the Old Bowmart Building.

Jermie Tank, addressing the council, said the recycling company would purchase a variety of recyclable items.

“What we would like to do there is, in a retail way, buy items such as aluminum wheel, alternators, starters, and other things”, said Tank. “I’m in the business, been in the business for twenty years. It would make a great location to package stuff the way I want to before I send the stuff off.”

Tank said the potential business would bring roughly four jobs to the community, and he added it would be done in an environmentally friendly manner.

“I think it would benefit the town, bringing in people who get gas and other things. The way we would like to run it would bring a lot to Bowman”, said Tank.

The proposed lease terms for the building and land are in the amount of $550 per month beginning on May 1st to last until May 1st, 2016 with an option to renew the lease for an additional five years at $750 per month with options to lease beyond that with an agreed amount.

Bowman Mayor Pete Gibbons told council to look over the terms and make any suggestions on what, if any, changes needed to be made.

The council is expected to vote at their regular meeting on Monday on whether or not to accept the terms of the proposal.
