Hilley begins her retirement after today after 15 years with the county.  Yesterday, a special reception was held for Hilley at the county commission office in Carnesville where dozens gathered to wish her well.

Hilley has been working for Franklin County since 1998.  She began her career there as a receptionist, then as accounts payable clerk.  She has been the County Clerk since 2002.

When first announcing her retirement, Hilley said she is looking forward to it but it was a hard decision..

“I’m starting to get used to the idea, (of retirement),” Hilley said Monday. “It was a hard decision to make, but now I’m looking forward to it.”

“I’m absolutely going to miss Laverne,” Morse said. “She’s been a great help to me in the three years I’ve been with Franklin County. I’ll miss her very much, but I wish her well in her retirement.”

Last week, the board announced they had hired Elaine Evans to replace Hilley.  Evans has been training for the past two weeks and begins her new job officially on Monday.
