Qualifying Begins Monday for Franklin Co BOC District 4 Seat

Qualifying begins Monday for the March Special Election for the Franklin County Commission District 4 seat.

Franklin County Interim Elections Supervisor Tracie Creason issued a call for the special election to be held on Tuesday, March 21.

Qualifying will take place from 9a Monday, January 9 to noon, Wednesday, January 11 at the Franklin County Board of Elections office in Carnesville.

The qualifying fee is $216.00

Additionally, if you plan to vote in the Special Election you must be registered to vote by February 21.

Early voting will be held Monday, February 27th- Friday, March 17th 8a to 5p at the Board of Elections office.

Creason said there will be two Saturday early voting opportunities on March 4th and the 11th from 9 am-4 pm.

Should a runoff election be required, it will be held on April 18th, 2023.

In late November, District 4 Commissioner-elect Cole Roper resigned from the seat he had won last May citing family and business constraints.

His letter was forwarded to Governor Brian Kemp who accepted Roper’s resignation.

There was initially some talk as to whether Roper’s challenger in the May election could simply be appointed.

However, County attorney Bubba Samuels said that after speaking with the Secretary of State’s office, there would have to be a new special election to fill the seat.
