Public’s Help Sought in Shooting Investigation

The GBI is seeking information from the public in its investigation of a Labor Day Weekend shooting that left two people dead.  The shooting happened around 2:00 a.m on Monday in the parking lot of Jack’s Bar & Grille, located at 1541 Anderson Highway 29, Hartwell.  Hart County Coroner Mike Adams says 39-year-old Roberius Thornton of Hartwell was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.  The coroner also states that 25-year-old Joseph Johnson of Canon died Monday afternoon at AnMed Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina.  A third victim was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  That person’s condition is unknown at this time.  A fourth victim went to the hospital on their own and was treated and released.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says several vehicles were also hit in the gunfire.  No suspects have been identified yet.  This investigation is active and ongoing.  Anyone with information is urged to contact police.  Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS(8477), online  at https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online, or by downloading the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
