Public Meeting Tonight on Future of Lavonia Cultural Center

The Lavonia Downtown Development Authority is holding a public meeting tonight on the future of the Lavonia Cultural Center.

In November, Cultural Center Director Logan Davison resigned. That sparked rumors the Cultural Center would be closing, but city manager Gary Fesperman said at the time that is not the case.

“We want to involve the public and anybody who is friends with the theatre in Franklin County,” Young said. “We want everybody to come. Members of the Franklin Community Players will be there as well as members of the Land of Spirit folk life play. We want input from the public on what they would like to see at the Lavonia Cultural Center, ” said DDA Executive Assistant Vivian Young.

Young said there already a number of productions already in the works at the Cultural Center for this year.

Those include the Land of Spirit play, the two-week youth theatre summer camp put on by the Franklin Community Players as well as concerts and other events.

Young said they are also interested in talking to people tonight who might be interested in volunteering at the Cultural Center.  She said there are all kinds of ways to participate in activities there.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:30p at the Lavonia Cultural Center on SR17 in Lavonia.
