Prison Guards Attacked by Inmate in Hart County Detention Center

A Hart County inmate at the Hart County Detention Center is facing more charges after assaulting a female jailer.

Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland said it happened Sunday.

Cleveland said 35-year old Perry Rucker was mopping the floor Sunday night when he suddenly attacked the female guard, allegedly beating her about the head.

Rucker is charged with four counts of aggravated assault, one count of battery, and three counts of felony obstruction, even though the attack was on three guards.

Cleveland said Rucker initially came to jail on a probation revocation and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He had been a trustee at the jail when three weeks ago he went over the fence and escaped. Rucker was captured about a short time later, adding more time and more charges.

Cleveland said he was not sure what caused him to attack the guards Sunday night.

Meantime, the female guard is out of the hospital and recovering at home.

He said she suffered multiple serious injuries and has a long recovery ahead.
